Maternity Nurse Support for Surrogacy Families

Discreet, Experienced Newborn Care From Birth

Welcoming a baby through surrogacy is an extraordinary beginning to family life, and the first days and weeks can involve additional planning alongside all the usual adjustments of caring for a newborn.

I provide experienced, discreet maternity nurse support for intended parents following surrogacy, in the UK and internationally.

As an NNEB-qualified maternity nurse with extensive newborn and private household experience, I can support your family from your baby's arrival, helping you establish calm, confident and responsive care from the very beginning.

Newborn Care Tailored to Your Family

There is no single model of a surrogacy family.

I work with intended parents individually, taking time before the birth to understand your plans, preferences, feeding choices, household arrangements and the support you would like once your baby arrives.

My role may include:

  • Newborn care from birth and during the early months

  • 24-hour live-in or structured night support

  • Feeding and bottle preparation

  • Expressed breast milk, donor milk, formula and combination-feeding support

  • Induced-lactation and relactation planning for an intended parent

  • Safe sleep and gentle, responsive settling

  • Bathing, changing and everyday newborn care

  • Monitoring feeding, sleep and development

  • Establishing practical rhythms around your baby's individual needs

  • Supporting intended parents as they gain confidence

  • Nursery preparation and newborn equipment guidance

  • Travel preparation and continuity of care between residences

  • Working discreetly alongside household staff, PAs, family offices and other professionals where required

My approach is responsive and nurturing rather than based upon rigid programmes or leaving a baby to cry.

Planning Before Your Baby Arrives

Surrogacy arrangements are often made many months in advance, which provides an excellent opportunity to plan your baby's newborn care before the birth.

A pre-birth consultation can cover your intended care arrangements, nursery preparation, feeding plans, equipment, sleeping arrangements, travel plans and the practical transition from hospital or maternity unit to home.

For international families, this can also include planning around temporary accommodation, private maternity facilities, multiple residences and onward travel with your newborn.

Where other professionals are involved, I am accustomed to working as part of a wider team while maintaining clearly defined professional responsibilities.

Individual Feeding Support

Some families may wish to explore more individual or less conventional feeding arrangements. Every family’s circumstances are different. Where more individual feeding arrangements are being considered, these can be discussed privately during consultation, with appropriate attention to health, professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Such discussions remain entirely private between the family and the relevant professionals involved.

Supporting Intended Parents

A maternity nurse should not take over the experience of becoming a parent.

My role is to make those first weeks easier.

I can take responsibility for your baby's care when you need rest or practical support, while also helping you become confident with feeding, bathing, settling, sleep, development and everyday newborn care.

As the weeks progress, support can gradually change so that parents naturally assume more of their baby's care.

The aim is not to create dependence upon a maternity nurse. It is to leave you feeling secure, knowledgeable and confident in caring for your child.

Complete Privacy & Discretion

Surrogacy can be an intensely personal matter, particularly for families whose professional or public lives require a high degree of confidentiality.

I work discreetly within private households and understand that information concerning a baby's conception, birth, surrogate, feeding arrangements or family circumstances is private.
I do not require publicity from families and I do not use identifiable client experiences as marketing material without explicit permission.

Where particularly sensitive care arrangements are involved, additional confidentiality provisions can be incorporated into the booking agreement.
For me, discretion is not an additional service. It is part of professional maternity care.

International Surrogacy Families

I accept selected surrogacy maternity bookings throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and internationally, subject to the legal working requirements of the destination.

I can also support families who travel to another country for their baby's birth and subsequently return home, providing continuity of newborn care during what can otherwise be a very busy period.

Travel, accommodation, working arrangements and appropriate periods of rest are agreed before the booking begins.

Experienced & Professionally Qualified

I am Karen Carter, an NNEB-qualified maternity nurse with more than three decades of professional childcare and newborn experience.

My background includes professional childcare, hospital maternity environments, early-years settings and extensive private household work in the UK and internationally.

I have experience caring for babies born through surrogacy, including multiple births, and understand the importance of approaching every family individually rather than making assumptions about how that family has been formed.

I maintain professional standards appropriate to private maternity work, including Enhanced DBS checks, paediatric first aid and professional insurance.

Planning Support for Your Surrogacy Journey

If you are expecting a baby through surrogacy and would like experienced maternity nurse support following the birth, you are welcome to contact me during the pregnancy rather than waiting until your baby arrives.

Please include your expected date, anticipated place of birth, where you expect to be based following the birth and the approximate length and type of support you are considering.
Surrogacy and international newborn-care consultations can also be arranged where detailed planning is required before a maternity booking is confirmed.
